Lewis E. Lawes, 64, renowned warden of Sing Sing from 1919 to 1941, died of a cerebral hemorrhage at Beverly House Farm. He oversaw reforms and more than 300 executions, wrote 20 000 Years in Sing Sing, and began penal work in 1905 at Dannemora. His wife and two daughters were at his bedside.
