Don Henderson is re-elected to coach the A and B Grades for the coming season. M Durston is named coach of C Grade. Training starts at Selwyn Park on March 21 with Monday and Wednesday sessions. Presentation Night set for April 7 at the Masonic Hall. Next committee meeting March 22 and general meeting April 8.
The St Albans Football Club held its annual meeting in poor weather but with good attendance. Secretary’s report praised the past season’s success and the treasurer announced a credit balance over £60. Election results named W E Perrett as President and W Baulch as Treasurer among other officers and committees. Training is set to begin next week with coach selection underway.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the R S L invites members to a general meeting on Tuesday March 15 with new members welcome. Whist evening returns Wednesday March 16 with hostesses Mesdames Clark and Nicholls and good prizes.
A cabaret ball will be held at Coconut Grove on Friday April 22 1949 at the corner of Alexander Avenue and Chapel Street South Yarra. For details contact Miss J MacFarlane c o Messia A K Lines Melbourne by telephone MU 53763.
At the February Hospital Committee meeting it was announced that the Hospital and the Children's Hospital will benefit from the carnival to be held at Mount Derimut Wee iuck on Saturday March 19. Revenue comes from fees memberships and donations. Dr A Pennell offered furnishings for a staff sitting room which the committee accepted. The Sunshine and District Community Hospital Auxiliary resumes monthly Card Parties at Hampshire House on Friday March 11 at 7 pm.
The Soldiers and Cricketers Annual Carnival ended Saturday evening after good weather and a sizable fund raise. Proceeds, divided between the two groups, will fund recreational facilities. Thanking the committee, highlights included the Professor Ree Barclay quiz, Talent Quest winner Miss Clues, Belle of the Carnival Miss J Ferguson, and judges Mrs L Perry Mrs R Barrett and Mrs A G Pennell.
Local lodge notices announce meetings at Sunshine venues including Sunshine Picture Theatre St Marks Hall and Shire Hall. Secretaries J Westcott H Morris J Patten advertise dates, times, and locations for U A O D and P A F S affiliated groups with March 28 upcoming session.
Church notices list service times for Lent at St Mark's Sunshine and St Albans St Albans and general Divine Worship. The Rev R F Adams is vicar, with Matins Evensong at specified hours and a Sunday School at different churches. Visitors welcome.
Sunshine 10 a m service 11 a m Sunday School 2 30 p m and 7 p m with Rev H Small. Albion holds 10 a m 11 a m Sunday School 7 90 p m led by Mr Willan. Deer Park 11 a m service by Mr Berry with WEIL noted.
Sunshine church holds 11 a.m. service with Rev. F. Sadler and 7 p.m. session. St Albans lists evening events with Rev. F. Sadler at 7 p.m. and Mr. Henderson involved in the program.
The schedule lists Salvation Army events across Sunday to Friday including holiness meeting at 11 a m and 7 p m, Sunday school sessions at 2 30 p m and 3 p m, Corps Cadets at 7 p m Tuesday, Soldiers Meeting at 4 p m, Ladies Home League at 2 45 p m Wednesday, and Band and Timbrel Practice on Friday at 7 p m.
The Church of Christ schedules morning worship at 11 a.m. with a gospel service. Sunday School and an evening gospel service are listed at 7 p.m. as part of the weekly program led by Minister Mr. S Prentice.
