The Sunshine and District United Friendly Society unveiled a modern dispensary in Ban Crescent with Shire President Dr J R Parsons presiding. The event highlighted the project’s 1949 origins, early funding by G L Coulter, and plans for a lodge and residence.
The article traces early funding of £234 including £100 loan and £134 fees, the May 31 1931 balance sheet with assets £476 and liabilities £322, and a small net profit of £69 0 4 over four years. It notes member growth to about 1275, and that the annual meeting at Shire Hall will report a £1000 asset surplus, credit to member cooperation, with members benefiting from medicines and household goods. The opening ceremony featured Dr Parsons and the building’s key contributors and local dignitaries.
A comic exchange between a client and a fortune teller unfolds with a morbid forecast about a late husband followed by a trivial prop gag about losing an umbrella.
The notice invites interviews at 266 Hampshire Road Sunshine near the National Bank every evening from 7 to 9 p.m. The location is specified for those seeking discussions or screening opportunities.
