Braybrook Shire Council bassed by Cr J R Robinson signalled on Monday that he will seek the Southern Riding seat. No nominees yet for Central Riding where Dr A E Dedrick retires and Dr W Glendenring holds Western Riding. If an election occurs in the Southern Riding it will be its first since the riding’s creation in 1926.

Sunshine pig and calf market opens with record bid
The new pig and cattle market in Sunshine was officially opened by Minister of Agriculture Hon E J Hogan M L A before a large audience. The Western Metropolitan Market Trust, including Braybrook Footscray Essendon Williamstown and Werribee councils, was formed seven months ago under an Act of Parliament. The first pigs sold for 63 pounds total with bids from F Watkins Pty Ltd and Dr A G Pennell, Pennell withdrawing at 51 pounds per pig. Mr Noble Powell, aged 77, noted his 61 years in cattle trading. John Gent Footscray Town Clerk organized the opening arrangements.
