Shire President's Concert Date Moved to August 14

The Shire President's Concert scheduled for August 17 has been moved to Monday August 14 due to a booking misstep by the Blind Workers' Association. Dr and Mrs Parsons arrange the event for the citizens with free admission and a post program hall tour at the Shire hall.

Noxious weed fines set for Maribyrnong land case

At Sunshine court Stephen Sassella was fined £4 with £1 8s 4d costs for failing to destroy noxious weeds on 190 acres in the Maribyrnong Riding. Samuel Roy Veale of St Albans was fined £3 with £1 8s 4d costs on a similar charge. Prosecutions noted by Keith William Nichol, Noxious Weeds Department inspector.

Distinguished Preacher To Visit Sunshine

On Sunday the evening service at Sunshine Methodist Church will be led by Rev A H Wood M A ED Dip Ed principal of Methodist Ladies College. He previously led a Tonga boys school and conducted the Tonga Choir that toured the state. The morning service features a Queen's College student as speaker. Thursday at 8 pm in the church hall Albert Drayton shows moving pictures from a New Guinea cruise with Pacific Islands exhibits.

Holden Receives Victoria Commission for Affidavits

Sunshine estate agent Mr L E J Holden is appointed as a Commissioner for taking affidavits and declarations under the Supreme Court of Victoria. The role covers wills and probates. Mel Holden also serves as a commissioner under the Evidence Act.

Train fare fine for travel on out of date ticket

J. H. Chapman was fined 20 shillings with 12 shillings 6 pence costs for travelling on an out of date railway ticket on June 8.

Final committee meeting to be held at Town Hall

The final meeting of the committee controlling the complimentary ball to the Shire President and Mrs Parsons will be held on Wednesday evening next at the Town Hall at pm. The balance sheet will be presented by the secretary Mr C G Carlton. Mr W Barnett, son of Mr and Mrs Roe Barnett of Tyler Street, has been reelected secretary of the Footscray and District Temi mix Association without opposition at the annual meeting held recently. Railway officers have accepted a plan prepared by Australian Estates Ltd for rounding the corner of Grainger's Road and Sunshine Road to straighten a dangerous right hand turn. The plan has been recommended to the Commissioners for approval and it is hoped to start the work shortly.

The Sunshine Baptist Church held a social evening to mark the appointment of Rev W Salter BA as pastor alongside his wife. Members and subsidiary groups gathered at the church hall with floral decorations, greetings from Mr RR Jones, and thanks to Pastor Brice. Entertainment featured local performers and a light supper followed.
