Duke marine biologist set to speak at foundation meet

Duke University marine biologist John Costlow will be the featured speaker at the Neuse River Foundation annual meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the Craven Regional Library auditorium. A Duke professor emeritus, he retired in 1991 after directing Duke University Marine Labs in Beaufort and has advised on environmental science globally. His talk is titled The Possible Future of the Neuse and the public is invited.

Growth prompts new 635 telephone prefix for New Bern

Sprint and Carolina Telephone began assigning 635 numbers in the New Bern area on Tuesday as growth boosts households and businesses. Community relations manager Lem Blades notes the interval since the last prefix 514 was the shortest in memory, with 8,085 lines available per prefix after testing reserves.
