DEM unveils plan to curb coastal water pollution
The Division of Environmental Management proposes tighter rules for dischargers, farmers and foresters to restore damaged coastal waters. The plan targets persistent pollution sources after identification and would apply to regions contributing runoff to waters not supporting designated uses. It stems from a South River study showing fecal coliform impacting shellfish beds and would require public hearings and commission approval.
