The House passed the Congressional Accountability Act 427 to 4, extending key federal workplace laws to members and staff, with a compliance office to handle complaints. A Senate counterpart is pending.
The Senate halted further funding for a $310 million secret spy facility after learning of the project, angered lawmakers who said work could have proceeded for years unseen. Senator Richard Bryan criticized the secrecy as outrageous. The chamber also approved a measure mandating budget line item disclosure for any intelligence building project over $300,000.
At the end of the 10th International AIDS Conference in Yokohama, WHO estimated a decade demand of about 20 billion condoms to curb AIDS. Last year 525 million condoms were used for AIDS prevention and other sexual health goals while U S sales reached 562 million.
