From Venice and surrounding jetties on Tuesday morning calm seas and sunny skies drew crowds to the Venice Fishing Pier and North Jetty Fish Camp. Notable catches included snook, flounder, sheepshead and redfish, with anglers listing weights from four to twenty pounds and using live shrimp or gold eye lures.
Tide readings show strong to very strong levels around Venice with high waters at Stump Pass and El Jobean several hours ahead or behind typical values. Boca Grande and Sanibel display mixed offsets from normal, while Poe area reports indicate low tides with notable early and late shifts.
John Bright Dan ville Ky Robert Hemnbaugh Painesville Ohio and David Allen Rock Falls Tr combined to haul eight red snapper two trout two mangrove snappers and 16 sheepshead last Friday. They fished again Saturday with eight sheepshead eight mangrove snapper and one very large trout. A four year old Crete Illinois boy Andrew Eggbrecht stored two pound school red. The Venice Pier reported two sheepshead 31 1 to 4 lbs a 4 pound drum and a 4 pound flounder caught by Gail Parkin. Lorraine Romero 1 1 2 lb flounder and Bill Land a cabra on a minnow. Ruth and Fred Herzog Newark Delaware had four fish earlier including a blue mackerel yellowtail and blue mackerel. David Walker Moscoe Pennsylvania caught a blue. Mackerel are beginning to appear and should arrive soon. catches vary but will grow with the run.
