Vivian Jaccoi of 370 Base Ave. called police after her son attacked her with his fists and threatened her with a butcher knife. Officers reported the youth vowed to take an officer's weapon and blow her brains out before being detained at a juvenile detention center.
Kim Hamsel and Nancy Clark of Michigan had purses stolen while cleaning a building at 34 Southwind Dr Englewood. A search found the purses in a restroom. The thief took 73 dollars from one purse out of 120 and 40 dollars from another purse out of 60.
A six gallon gas tank and hose for a motor boat were stolen from Roger Henandez on Gibbs Road Venice Tuesday. The full tank, recently painted red, was valued at 45 dollars.
Burglars pried a jalousie door screen and broke a glass slat to enter William H. Dieter’s garage apartment at 909 Groveland Ave. They took an $800 Kenwood amplifier model KRSO10 and several albums. fingerprints were recovered from the stereo cabinet.
A runaway juvenile from a Myakka trustee work farm was seized by police on Tuesday upon arrival by Greyhound bus a short distance north of Venice. Officers had tracked the bus and waited as the youth disembarked and proceeded to the trusteeship facility. He will be transported back to the trustee honor farm.
A thief with a sweet tooth pried open a window at the Well Field complex concession stand Friday and stole more than $200 in snacks. The loot included boxes of potato chips candy pizzas cheeseburgers and hot dogs.
Floyd K. Chancey, 29, of 311 North Portia Street, was charged with driving under the influence after police observed him weaving across the center line on East Venice Avenue and traveling at 20 mph in a 35 mph zone. He failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the station for a breathalyzer and booking.
