Southwest Florida council opposes rail line abandonment
The Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council opposes Seaboard Coast Line Railroad's plan to abandon the Arcadia to Boca Grande line. In a March 16 resolution signed March 28 by Larry Rhodes the council warned that abandoning rail service would worsen crowded highways and harm industrial and warehousing users and jobs dependent on rail. The council cited rapid population growth and rising transportation needs as reasons for its unanimous stance.
