The city council of Sumner Illinois passes an annual appropriation for the current fiscal year 1800 totaling 1900 dollars from general tax levy for streets sidewalks cemetery officer salaries miscellaneous expenses and interest. Ordinance numbers, dates, and signatures are noted with mayor and city clerk approvals and publication. A testimonial from a soldier’s widow home and Syrup of Pepain is included as a separate notice.
Teachers examinations for 1900 will be held for second grades at Lawrenceville and Sumner on June 26 and September 15 with passes for first grades in science at Lawrenceville and Sumner on August 10. Requirements include averages of 62 for second grade minimum 70 and 87 in second grade branches with 85 in sciences and no branch under 75. Theory and practice questions will cover teaching principles state course of study law and child study. Special questions on law and poetry will be included. material provided except ink.
