Gallantry of Germans at Tien-Tsin Armory

On June 23 a night march led to the imperial armory opposite Tien-Tsin where enemy fire opened as our troops faced the river bank. Marines and seamen under Major Johnson seized guns at a gallant point while Germans farther downstream took two guns and crossed to capture them. Boer Battle At Lindley In June Engagement

Pretoria reports on June 26 fighting near Lindley where a force engaged the enemy, with reinforcements arriving that day. A convoy defending a garrison was attacked on June 6 but reached Lindley safely after a heavy rear-guard action. Total casualties across two columns were three killed and twenty three wounded. ten mill[ed], four officers and about fifty men wounded in the Lindley action. Lieutenant North, missing after the construction-train attack, is said to be a prisoner of the Boers.

Ships and piers burned as hohoken waterfront destroyed

New York on July 2 reports say every pier and dock property of the North Tuan Steamship Company along Hoboken’s waterfront was wiped out by a Saturday fire. Four ships at the piers were damaged or sunk including the Main the Saale and the Bremen with uncertain death toll estimated from 200 to 400.
