The Turman community's second annual fair drew large crowds Friday and Saturday with a rich display of heirlooms, handwork, and regional exhibits. Organizers restructured space across gymnasium and classrooms to better showcase farm products, culinary arts, needle crafts, and club talents, while entertainment included a Howard Tooley concert and various races on Saturday.

A traveling Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company rep near Linton narrowly avoided being declared dead after a nap in his car northeast of the city. Mrs Park mistook his breathing for death, alerting locals and sending the undertaker and coroner on a swift but fruitless chase before the man woke and resumed his journey.

Local telephone girls strike after discharge

First Opera House in Sullivan Built Nearly Fifty Years Ago
The first Sullivan opera house was built in 1874 on the south square by Jacob F. Hoke C. J. Sherman and Willis Benefield. It opened with Risen from the Ashes and later burned. Managers included Sherman and Dear with acts by Wallace Sisters Haverly's Big 4 and Gorton’s New Orleans Minstrels. Actors such as Grahame Earl Fanny Mathias and Madame Mojeska graced the stage.

Former Turman Woman Passes Away in Decatur
Mrs. Nelle Ingersoll Wasson, 64, native of Turman township, wife of Van R. Wasson, died Friday at the family home in Decatur after five weeks of uremic poisoning. Funeral was held Monday in Decatur. Survived by husband, three daughters Iva, Levis, Selma, a son Van Wasson Jr., and one granddaughter. Sisters in Turman township attended.

Parachute Jump Sunday by Graysville Aviator
