Carlisle farmer dies in mysterious farm accident
Jaynes McConnell a 55 year old Carlisle area farmer died in a farm field near his mother's home when a shotgun discharge and fire from a truck loaded with hay ended his life. Coroner I N Botts ruled accidental death after finding one shell exploded and another unexploded. He left Carlisle driving a Ford truck with hay when a tenant’s son Ivan Unger heard a shotgun blast and saw the blaze at the field. Burial was in Carlisle cemetery following a large Methodist church service with Masonic lodge involvement. Surviving family includes Jennie McConnell Eloise Akin McConnell and three sons.

William Harrison Conkel a 65 year old mining veteran died after a short illness at his South State street home. He was longtime superintendent at a Vandalia area mine and helped develop several county mines. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with burial at Center Ridge cemetery. he is survived by a widow Mary Ann Beswick and five children along with several sisters and a brother.

State Highway to connect Sullivan and Linton approved
The State Highway Commission will take over the old Sullivan and Linton road to create a 50 ft high ground and 70 ft wide route through Busseron bottoms. The path will run fifteen miles east from Buck Creek to Linton and join No. 9 between Linton and Jasonville.
