City to require railroads install electric crossing bells
City council to pass third reading of an ordinance demanding that all railroad crossings within corporate limits have electric bells and signals operated by electricity. A second ordinance will require all city trees to be trimmed ten feet above sidewalks. Fire department response was clarified after reports showed eight minutes actual time on scene, not the reported forty five minutes.

Stark Damage Suit Settled For 1500 Dollars
Hershel V. Stark, administrator of Dr. W. N. Stark, settled a 25 000 damage suit against Vandalia Railroad Co and Terre Haute Indianapolis & Eastern Traction Co for 1500. Each defendant paid 750. Dog Survives Fall in Mine Shaft Near Shelburn
A yellow shepherd dog fell into a mine shaft at Mildred mine last night. Pit Boss Harry Wilden and workman Joe Garner found the animal alive at the sump and hauled it to the surface after securing a neck chain. The dog suffered only a cut above the right eye and trotted away unharmed, with several witnesses ready to swear to the tale’s authenticity.

The will of Simeon Smith of Bloomfield, died August 13, is challenged as invalid. It left 80 acres to Indianapolis Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Home, 160 acres to church societies, $60,000 for a DePauw chair, and the residue to DePauw University, with about $9,000 to relatives. Plaintiffs allege unsound mind undue influence and improper execution. The estate is valued at at least $250,000.
