Dude Booker, once a city bus driver, was arrested in Terre Haute on a wife desertion charge. He pleaded guilty in court before Judge Bridwell and received a suspended sentence of one to three years on the condition of supporting his wife, Anna Smith.

The Sullivan Industrial Association raised 1600 to 1700 dollars for repairing the Leach building on West Washington street for the Samuel Frank Overall Company of Terre Haute to locate a factory here. The board seeks bids for elevators and a steam heating plant. The new factory will start with fifty workers and add more as needed.

Peter Hill Dies Sudden at Sandborn at 80

Peter Hill a Knox County patriarch died suddenly at his Sandborn home on the 12th at age eighty. A Greene County native born in 1832, he served as first lieutenant in Co. K 80th Indiana during the Civil War. Survived by an adopted daughter Bessie Young and three brothers, he lived in Sullivan and Carlisle before moving to Sandborn. He was active in grain and pork packing and stock business.

Walter Alsman, a principal in the Gambill's Grove shooting near Dugger, was released on $500 bond after six weeks in jail. Henry Beam a brakeman on the Illinois Central was severely injured Wednesday night at New Lebanon when caught between cars. He was mashed and mangled, brought to town for treatment by Drs. Crowder and Scott, then sent to Robinson hospital.

Farmer Discovers Ancient Spanish Coin While Plowing

On a Gill Township farm eight miles west of town J D Maple unearthed a Spanish silver coin dated 1198. The coin, about the size of a dollar, shows Caro lus III on one side and Hespania Et Ind Rex with the Spanish coat of arms on the other. The date makes the coin 294 years old before Columbus reached America, and Maple has received lucrative offers for the find.
