Paul Buckley, a pioneer coal miner born December 6, 1837 in Oldham England, died Monday night at Union hospital Terre Haute after surgery for strangulated hernia. He immigrated in 1856 and worked in coal mines across PA IL KY OH before settling in Shelburn Currysville. Survived by wife Adelia Manwarring and six children including Frank, William, John, Charles, and Mayme. He was active in Masonic Oddfellows and Jerusalem Chapter.

Fire destroys barn on Scott farm in early Monday blaze
A fire at Irvin Scott’s Scott farm four miles northwest of town burned a large barn and wheat granary. Two fine horses a span of mules a buggy and harnesses were lost along with hay wheat corn and potatoes. Loss estimated around two thousand dollars with little insurance. Strawther Rooksberry's family lives on the farm. The fire was spotted at two o'clock after the buildings had largely burned.
