Mesha Hunt a Sullivan county native and longtime city resident died Friday night at his West Johnson street home after a yearlong illness. Born 1838 in Gill township he moved to town about fifteen years ago. Survived by wife Sarah Eaton, two sons Charles and Joseph, two daughters, and siblings. Funeral Monday at 2 pm from his residence with interment at Center Ridge cemetery.

Origin believed a defective flue, with flames racing to the attic before firefighters could contain them. Several people were burned while saving clothing and furniture.
