Curtis Hagerman a Curry township farmer died at the county hospital after being struck by a falling tree limb while assisting in felling timber near Hymera. He suffered a fractured skull and internal injuries and died a few hours after arrival. He lived east of Farmersburg.
Sullivan county contributes 38 students to Indiana University this fall as overall enrollment reaches 3609 at Bloomington and 335 at Indianapolis. The university serves 4413 students statewide through 60 extension sites with programs in visual instruction and correspondence study. Delineated Sullivan county students include names across several towns such as Dugger, Hymera, Merom, and Pleasantville, with medical and extension programs noted.
Announcement from Sullivan notes the death of Bertha Crawford Neff aged 49 at her Pasadena home in California. She was born in Sullivan Indiana in 1874, youngest daughter of the late Captain William T. Crawford, and is survived by husband William E. Neff, daughter Barbara, son William R., two sisters Mrs Etta Halway and Mrs Neville Crowder, and two brothers Webster Crawford and Rush Crawford. Neff was a former stenographer, choir soloist, and Civil War veterans’ favorite. Funeral held in Pasadena.
Webb Meagan cards announce the marriage of Miss Lucretia Webb to Mr Mark Meagan on Thursday November 22 in Richmond Indiana. The bride is daughter of the late Chas Webb of New Lebanon and formerly worked at Easthaven hospital for the insane about five years. The groom resides in Richmond and they will live there after the ceremony. They are visiting relatives here for a few days.
C H Stratton of this city named Sullivan county chairman for the Harding memorial drive by state chairman Arthur R Robertson. The drive runs December 9 to 16 with county and community chairmen to organize town efforts. The Harding Memorial association aims to raise 3 million dollars for a mausoleum, the Marion Ohio home, and a chair in diplomacy and government functions.
John and William Auten, said to have come from Taylorville, were arrested Monday by Chief Willis and Officer Dudley on a charge of unlawful liquor transport. Police report they possessed a can of liquor and caps for liquor bottles.
Eva Cochran nee Stansil died last week at her Columbus home and her remains were brought to Claiborne. She was a niece of the late Bennett Stansil. Funeral services were held Sunday at Claiborne Church with burial in Claiborne Cemetery.
A union Thanksgiving service of city churches will be held tomorrow at ten o clock at the Presbyterian church. Rev J A Sumwalt of the Methodist church will deliver the sermon. Music will be provided by a choir selected from several churches.
Mrs. Ora Benefield of Columbus Ohio visits Mr and Mrs Hinkle C Hays as a guest in their home in a social note.
Friday marked the 87th birthday of Captain Thomas B Springer a long time county resident. His daughter Mrs John F Allen hosted a family dinner at the Allen home with relatives including John M Springer Frank Springer Sam Springer and their families. Ed B Springer of Garden City Kansas could not attend. A sumptuous dinner and a cake with 87 candles were featured.
Captain Springer, a lifelong county resident and Civil War veteran who led Company G of the 11th Indiana Cavalry, was reappointed last week to the Board of Control of the Soldiers and Sailors' Monument at Indianapolis by Governor McCray. His long service as a citizen and churchman is noted by Sullivan county men who attest to his character.

Samuel A. Cartwright aged 84 a native of the county and longtime Haddon township farmer died Sunday at his son's home William L. Tom McNamara turned up two old papers found in Cass township home near 317 miles east of here. One is the New York Herald dated April 15, 1865 reporting Lincoln's assassination. The other is the Sullivan Union dated August 1, 1888. The papers were linked to pioneer resident M Crawford, father of T W Crawford now in California.

Francis M Corell former Turman township resident died Friday at his Peoria Illinois home. Remains arrived Saturday for burial and were taken to Ed Stewart residence west of town. Funeral Sunday at Mt Tabor church conducted by Rev Daugherty. Burial followed in Mt Tabor cemetery.

Mrs. Paul Poynter left Monday for St. Petersburg Florida where she will join Mr. Poynter. They plan to return here the last of next week to remain until the first of January.
State Highway Superintendent Ste phen Stalcup in Linton announces that highway No 30 between Sullivan and Bloomfield is now No 4. Road signs updated. portions of No 9 and No 12 also shown under the 4. No 4 will run from Sullivan to the Wabash River, linking to the Ohio border in the east and toward the Illinois line in the south.
Mrs. Ermina Birlingmeir aged 93 died at her Farmersburg home at 8 this morning. Survived by two sons Samuel H. of Farmersburg and John L. of Freesoil Michigan, three daughters Henrietta Birlingmier Stella Barcus and Tida Moore, four grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Pioneer resident of the area. Funeral at Farmersburg Methodist church Friday at 10:80, burial Bethel cemetery Hymera.

John Whipps aged 75 a longtime and respected resident of Haddon township died suddenly at his home near Carlisle Wednesday afternoon. He complained of chest pain from gas pressure and was found dead in a chair when his wife returned. Funeral services are set for Friday at two with Rev. W. L. Alexander officiating and Carlisle Lodge No. 50 I O O F in charge. Interment in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
Wilson Leach Post 1083 W F W met at Sullivan Eagles Hall. Robert McGinnis was initiated and plans were made to show Powder River, the official U S Signal Corps war picture, over the holidays. The program includes eleven Signal Corps men killed in the Argonne and reels of American film plus 1500 feet of stolen German film showing sinking of eleven Allied ships. A boxing wrestling show is planned around Jan 10 with contact through McGinnis. Next meeting is Dec 1 and discussion on a memorial hall at Sullivan.
