Fatal shooting near Shelburn rocks Reliance miner
Fred Martin 25 from West Virginia was shot and killed Friday evening near the Stark schoolhouse two miles west of Shelburn following a quarrel over alleged car stealing at the Reliance mine. James Van Hook 22, a check weighman, fled to Shelburn then surrendered to the sheriff. He admits firing 13 shots with a 22 and a Colt 32, claiming Martin may have fired first. no preliminary hearing yet. The case shores up miners support to hire lawyers to prosecute Van Hook.

Mrs George Wright Found Dead in Home
Mrs George Wright aged 58 was found dead in bed at her home one mile southwest of Shelburn at 7 am Monday. The death, due to dropsy, occurred about 4 am after a period of illness. Funeral services were at Little Flock Church with Rev William O Neal officiating and burial in Little Flock cemetery. She is survived by her husband and five sons Richard Mason Walter Edward Wallace and Raymond Wright.
