George White, a miner, was shot to death at Reuben Wheat’s home after a fishing trip. Wheat, quoted boasting of equality, ordered his wife to fetch a revolver before firing on White. Wheat fled but was captured after a lengthy chase by Hymera and Shelburn officers. Both men had been drinking. no clear motive established. White, 30, unmarried. Wheat, 32, with a wife and child.

Death from Ptomaine Poisoning Of Carlisle Farmer
John Lemon a young farmer living west of Carlisle died Thursday after a brief illness from ptomaine poisoning due to canned meat. He was unmarried, son of Benton Lemon, and a member of the Sullivan lodge of Eagles. Burial was Friday at Carlisle Odd Fellows cemetery with many Eagles in attendance.

Brick cooling room collapses beside Shelburn store
A one story brick building east of the company store in Shelburn collapsed this morning at about 8 o'clock. Erected about ten years ago by John Patton as a cooling room it had been used as a ware room but had become shaky and held only old boxes and barrels. The brick roof fell inward causing the structure to be demolished.
