Drunkenness Arrest Leads to Arrest of Whiskey Seller
Ezekiel McCay was arrested for drunkenness by Marshal Lloyd and jailed in Sullivan after an attorney paid his fine. McCay said he obtained whiskey from Allie McCrocklin, who was then arrested for selling without a license.

Charles Scott Claimed by Death
Uncle Charley Scott, a longtime Sullivan resident and prominent Democrat, died Monday morning at his home after an eight day illness of acute pneumonia. He was born November 20, 1823 in Knox County and later farmed west of the city before moving to Troll Street. He served on the county board of commissioners three terms and was a devoted Methodist. He is survived by his wife Mary, whom he married in 1871, and five children Alice Coffman Anna Bicknell Sarah Hunt Ruth Emma Scott. Funeral services will be held at his Troll Street residence at 2 PM conducted by Rev. W H Grim and Rev. George Murphy with interment at Center Ridge cemetery.

Fire Destroys Taylor Home at Riverton
Fire last Friday noon destroyed the Taylor residence and its contents, started by hot lard in a kitchen kettle. Mrs. Taylor was rendering grease and stepped out. Mr. Taylor attempted to quench flames with water, spreading fire through the room. Loss includes house, furnishings, and about $60 to $130 in cash. Bell toll station in the home also burned. No insurance. neighbors aiding family with donations welcomed.

Dual Fatalities At Union Mine

Seven creeks surged to high water levels with heavy icing last week causing widespread disruption but little overall damage. The York levee fill washout destroyed three weeks of contractor work while rail service was partly halted except for the E and T H. Buss eron creek flooded Southern Indiana and Indianapolis Southern tracks four to five feet deep. Engineer John Fisk stayed at the pumping station until water reached the boiler firebox and was rescued by skiff. Tur man creek peaked in twenty years and Turtle Creek overflowed Merom Merom Station road. Buck creek covered Paxton road for the first time since the fill.

Sullivan Reports First Time No Licensed Saloon In Town
The Taylos Edwards saloon opposite the Davis hotel lost its license last Wednesday night at eleven. Sullivan now has no licensed saloon for the first time in its history. The county will become dry after June 5 as Charles Daugherty’s license in Hamilton township expires. An old resident recalls Sullivan possibly being dry briefly in the early sixties and notes liquor was common in stores then with whiskey selling for about 25 cents per gallon.

Former resident hurt in street car accident in Winona
George Price of this city learned last week his brother James Price was severely injured when thrown from a street car at Winona Michigan while on business. James had a prior leg injury from an elevator accident in Cincinnati in the early eighties. He is now in the wrecking business and previously ran a Sullivan business in 1860.

Theatre Nearing Completion At Colonnade Playhouse
The Colonnade theatre is rapidly nearing opening with first class productions planned. It will be a fireproof, up to date small theatre in the region with electrical gear being installed this week and seating arriving. Scenery was shipped Monday as construction proceeds toward a finished theatre.

The Linton Bituminous Coal company holdings were sold in the city on Wednesday afternoon by the Marion Trust Company of Indianapolis as receiver to James A. Robinson of Indianapolis for 30 500. The coal company was recently declared bankrupt.
