Sudden Death of Thomas Osborne Pioneer Citizen
Thomas Osborne a county pioneer and longtime resident died suddenly of heart failure at his home northwest of Sullivan last Sunday. Born November 20, 1825 in Nelson county Kentucky he moved to Sullivan county in 1826. He leaves a wife four daughters and one son. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Little Flock Baptist church with burial in Little Flock cemetery. He had been a regular reader of this paper for 39 years and was a lifelong Republican.

Albert Hardesty Dies After Long Illness
Albert Hardesty died Friday at his home on Graysville street after a long illness of consumption. He was born in Sullivan on May 6, 1866, the son of Richard Hardesty. He lived in Texas 18 years working in railroading, then returned to Sullivan two years ago. He married three times and is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son. Funeral services were held Sunday at the residence conducted by Eld. Francis of the Christian church, with burial at Center Ridge.

Carlisle's New Rural Carriers Begin Service
Carlisle introduces three rural routes with new carriers. Route 1 is John H. Johnson, Route 2 L. L. Beers, and Route 3 Elza Douthitt. The routes started service last Monday morning.

New Town Board Organized Friday
Sullivan’s city government reorganized with the new town board replacing the old. Holdovers Oscar M. Patton and Daniel J. Yadon remain trustees while William E. Aydelotte, William J. Crowder Jr., and Nick Davis replace McCloud Borders and McClung. Aydelotte elected president, all members noted for prior town experience and a businesslike approach. The board is unanimously Democratic.

Local history dispute ends with confirmation that the old Section street frame house, razed for J. P. Stratton’s residence, was built by Judge James C. Allen in or before 1845. Allen, later based in Olney Illinois, was Sullivan’s early prosecuting attorney after the county seat moved from Merom.

First Baptist Church Marks Fiftieth Anniversary Jubilee
The First Baptist Church of Sullivan celebrated its fiftieth anniversary on Sunday May 15 1904 with a jubilee and dedication service to honor a completed working plant and debt payoff The event featured sermons by Rev G H H Simmons and Rev Albert Ogle and included visitors from Paris Ill Pittsburg Pa and Terre Haute Ind The church shows a fully paid debt and substantial local support despite a late bell arrival and the absence of Aunt Jane Griffith.

At a carnival last week John Dudley fell for a simple ball and peg game offering a cheap timepiece as prize. He paid $8.20, faced legal action, and the Ingersoll representative paid $15 to settle with the state. the watchman paid $6.80.

Woman Tries Suicide at Hymera Cistern
Hymera Ind May 17 Mrs Lydia Stager attempted death by own action by jumping into a cistern at noon yesterday. Despondency from domestic troubles followed her husband’s entry into the saloon business about a year ago. She has a son Edgar and a daughter Elvia living and one daughter dead. She is about 46 years old.
