Uncle John Otto, a longtime Oaktown resident born in Germany, left his home between 3 and 4 am on foot and wandered south toward Freelandsville and Vincennes. Neighbors and relatives joined a search, and Otto, exhausted, was found near Carlisle then persuaded to return to Oaktown for supper.

Mrs Clara E Briggs died at her son Hervey Duttons Cross street residence Tuesday around 4 p m following a heart disturbance. She would have reached her 70th birthday on April 8 and recently returned from Florida. She was the widow of Murray Briggs and previously John W Dutton. The funeral plans are not yet set, with arrangements likely at the Presbyterian church.

The A O U W lodge of Sullivan received a Grand Lodge voucher for 1000 dollars payable to Mrs Murray Hunt in full payment of her late husband’s life certificate. He was killed in the Green Hill mine on April relative.

Shooting at Arcade Leaves Davis Wounded in Barroom Clash
At 8 PM last Saturday in the Arcade saloon Shirley B. Davis of Farnsworth, a coal miner, was struck by an iron wedge and then shot by Francis Smith after a longstanding feud with Smith and his brother Baz. Davis survived with a wound near the lower rib. both Smith brothers were arrested, later bonded at 500 dollars each, and set for a preliminary hearing on the 29th before J. W. Burnett. Baz reportedly carried a pistol but did not fire.

Train Accident Kills Harvey Cravens in Sullivan
A westbound coal train derailed near Oblong Illinois killing Harvey Cravens who rode the train to reach his relatives in Effingham New Jersey. Cravens was found beneath coal after the cars overturned and later died. Burial held at Center Ridge cemetery. A second note reports Alfred Caffee Jr bitten by a mad dog at Hymera hydrophobia feared. treatment begun in Chicago.

Fatal Mine Accident in Star City Claims German Worker
Ludwig Hoffman a 25 year old German immigrant recently from Chicago died after being buried by about two tons of falling slate at the Star City mines last Saturday. An inquest led by Coroner Maxwell with State Mine Inspector James Epperson present. Hoffmans funeral and interment at Little Flock cemetery followed Monday.

Shot by Son Hits Washington Lawyer Prominent Figure
Arnold J. Padgett a Washington Indiana attorney was shot by his son, also a lawyer and Daviess County prosecutor, after a street argument escalated at their law office. The son was immediately arrested and jailed. Padgett is described as a brother of C. W. Padgett, with ties to local residents.

Winter Picnic Club Hosts Frugal Evening Games
Mrs. Chas. L. Davis and Mrs. H. H. Wilson entertained the Winter Picnic Club at Davis residence last Friday. The unique game crowned Miss Bonnie Coffman with the gentlemen’s prize while Miss Coffman stood in for her father. Consolation prizes went to Miss T. W. Kennedy and Mr. S. L. Brokaw. Accidental Shooting Wounds Mrs. Kelly at Home
At John Kirkham’s North Main Street home last Sunday night a stray shot from a passing 22 rifle struck Mrs. Jennie Kelly in the shoulder. John fired after mistaking her for a burglar as she leaned from a window to strike at nearby dogs. Doctor Thixton treated the flesh wound and officials expect no serious injury.
