Miners Set to Strike Friday in Indiana District Eleven
A large group of miners in Sullivan County and 16 Consolidated Coal, Kelty Coal, Coal Bluff and Jackson Hill mines will walk out Friday after failed talks between operators and the United Mine Workers. Disputes include card handling, reinstatement of discharged workers, lost time pay, and several other issues. National officials and local councils are in town as the strike begins with 16 of 163 district mines affected.

Robbers Target McKinney and Local Store
Burglars broke into John McKinney’s home on route four in Shelburn and stole $7.80 from his trousers after being heard leaving. A few weeks earlier his house was robbed again. Fred Liner’s store was entered and neck ties stolen. the safe’s inner door remained locked with papers inside, including old legal documents and insurance policies of little value to the thieves.

Ridgeway Versus Whitfield Trespass Case Heard in Squire Kirkham Court

Ill luck struck the Sullivan Union when a bolt in the surcingle loosened and tangled with the hitch rack causing a splash. The remonstrance failed and the dufficker flew up, leaving the current printing setup unstable as they await repairs and use the Sullivan Democrat paper’s press.
Wesley Rogers Killed by Mule Near Farmersburg
Wesley Rogers aged 71 of Farmersburg was killed when a mule kicked him in the barn. The injury to his eye and chest caused fatal ribs to break. he died three minutes later before Dr. Bennett arrived. Funeral planned near Midland this afternoon. Rogers left six children including William and John Rogers and a daughter in Sullivan. Mrs. Rogers had died six weeks earlier.

Visit of Perry Murphy Ends in His Death
Perry Murphy of York Illinois visited this city on the 29th and fell ill. He was assisted but declined help and died soon after. The Terre Haute Star shows his York house built in 1828 where he lived until death. He was in his 79th year, twice married, and leaves a large estate including farms around York and land on this side of the river. His last visit remains a fond memory to friends.

Narrow Escape for Sullivan Boys in Flooded Road
Wes Shanks, Asa Walls and Dan James of Sullivan were nearly drowned when their borrowed team and rig entered water on Bussreon bottoms south of the city. The vehicle backed into a deep ditch as they tried to turn around. one horse drowned, the other swam to safety after being freed and badly cut on a barb wire fence.

Heavy losses from Turman’s Creek flood hit Fairbanks township
Clint Phillips of Big Springs reports a major flood loss for William Riggs of Fairbanks township after Turman’s Creek rose Friday. More than 100 sheep were stranded on an island as the stream rose and drowned all but 14, saved by Riggs and nearby neighbors. Riggs estimates the loss at about $1000.

Shelburn Boy Charged With Theft
Roy Hare, sought on a larceny charge, was arrested Saturday at Jacksonville by Shelburn Marshal Curt McCoskey and jailed. He is accused of stealing $75 from his father in law J. C. Annis of Shelburn, alleged to have occurred around April 25. Hare disappeared then and was not found until Saturday.

Merom Resident David Larr Dies at 70
David Washington Larr of Merom died at his home at 4 o clock yesterday morning from bronchial trouble. The Civil War veteran served in Co H 85th Indiana Volunteers. He leaves a wife two sons two daughters and one sister. Funeral is this afternoon. He was a highly respected local figure.
