College Student Bert Waters Drowned at Merom
Bert Waters, a U. C. College student, drowned while bathing with peers on the Wabash River near Merom last Saturday afternoon. McCray alone survived a strong current and shallow water. Waters disappeared and was found later lodged in a river drift about four miles downstream. He was about twenty four and had been working through school, with teaching duties in Crawford county planned for next year.

They plan a modern two story business and office building with brick stone and plate glass front. The lower front rooms will house business tenants and the rear rooms will be offices. Old Landmark Engle Dies. Longtime Sullivan County Resident
Joseph B. Engle born May 15, 1822 in Sullivan County Indiana died May 24 1904 at age 82. He married Letitia Rusher in 1851 and she survives. He leaves sons Samuel of Burlington Kansas and Charles L in the county plus seven grandchildren. He joined the Church of Christ at Palmer’s Prairie forty years ago.

Memorial Day Observed in Sullivan with Services
Memorial Day was observed in Sullivan with a large crowd despite rain. The program at the M E church featured recitations and music, readings from Commander in Chief Gap Black, proclamations by W R C and D of W leaders, and a memorial address by Hon. John C. Chaney. News from Pacific Missouri reports Mrs. J N Everett born April 11 1858 and a former Sullivan county resident died after being struck by a Frisco freight train on a parallel track while walking with companions to avoid a Missouri Pacific freight. Her sister Aunt Jane Ransford attended the funeral. The funeral was held in Pacific.

Welsh miner known as Happy Jack Griffith dies in mine accident
In Jackson Hill mine, about seven o'clock Thursday morning, John Happy Jack Griffith was struck by a heavy slate mass while tearing down loose slate and rocks. He died at 9:15 am despite Dr. Coulson's efforts. The 36-year-old Welshman, unmarried, had recently moved from Kentucky to Sullivan County. Funeral held Friday.
