A campaign led by Professors Ward and Atkinson works to raise $20,000 to trigger a $30,000 gift from Hon. F A Palmer. About $15,000 to $16,000 has been raised. donors include W H Crowder contributing $200 and a Gibson county farm valued at about $15,000. Palmer’s gift would total $50,000 and bolster the college’s finances toward independence.

John Collier a farm laborer from the southern county area went to town Saturday got drunk and caused a disturbance at the depot Sunday afternoon. He drew a large knife when Officers Orr attempted arrest but was subdued and jailed. He was tried before Squire Altart Monday morning fined 10.05 dollars to be paid in jail.
The street fair program is unfinished and won’t be printed until mid next week. The management has contracted F A M Barnes of the Western Theatrical Exchange for twelve pitch shows and many free attractions. Free shows will rival and exceed last year, with the Marvellous Marsh expected to be among the best.
A Chicago printed July Faithful Messenger note from C H Dry of Harsonville Illinois praises fupid's Columns as grand. The letter mentions Dry being a Merom student and humorously notes college girls and matrimonial agency. ad offers less-than wholesale prices on Queensware from Sullivan Mercantile Co.
Dr. W C Robbins aged about 30 died at his Phoenix Arizona home two weeks ago from consumption. He trained in St Louis then practiced in Sullivan where lung disease developed from medical training. He left for Arizona, recovered somewhat, built a large practice, but died leaving a wife and child. His mother visited for the birth of his child. burial occurred in Phoenix.
Hymera beat Sunday Sullivan 9 to 8 in a rough Hymera home game. Speirs pitched aggressively, hitting seven Sullivan players including Ren Crowder who suffered a crushed malar bone. Dr Thrail treated Crowder as the umpire ruling drew sharp complaints from Sullivan supporters.

Applicants for liquor licenses in the city will appear at the August term of Commissioners' Court. Those seeking five licenses include Claude Hughes, Davis Hotel Buffett, John Leach, the Allen B. West Side, A. S. Gordon North Side, and O. J. Dudley Southwest corner of the square in the Ross building.
George Leach sold his livery stable on West Washington Street Monday morning to Charles Walston and John Springer of Gill township. The new firm took immediate possession with Walston in charge. Leach also sold his Allen B saloon to his brother John Leach.

Jack Mullane’s valuable parrot escaped Monday afternoon from a cage on South Main Street. A crowd watched as 30 to 40 people tried to catch the bird using a wire tipped fishing pole. Tuesday morning Blackburn climbed a maple and captured the exhausted parrot. Scott Dickerson aided with a sack. Mullane split the dollar reward between the two boys.

Knox County officers set August 19 to 22 for the Soldiers Reunion at Vincennes fair grounds. They invited congress candidates J. C. Chaney and Robert W. Miers to speak and urged all veterans of past wars to attend, hoping for the biggest event yet.
The K of P band gave a concert at Carlisle Saturday night during an ice cream supper hosted by the Carlisle band. People from nearby towns attended, some traveling by car and train. The event was described as a great success.
Property owners of Sullivan must mow grass and cut weeds from July 16 to August 31 each year. After that, the town will do the work and the cost will be added to the property tax duplicate. Help keep Sullivan clean. signed James S. Barnes as Street Commissioner.
The World notes that buggies driving wagons and phaetons are sold at a right price, praising vehicle marvels and value offered by Sullivan Mercantile Co.
In Hymera petition for incorporation, town inspectors report 149 votes for and 38 against. A majority of 111 favored incorporation and the town is ordered incorporated under the Hymera name. Other court actions include road petitions, remonstrances on licenses and appointments of viewers to assess damages or report next term.
Jim St Clair proprietor of the Index Store rents space from the Odd Fellows to the west of his store. Carpenters are fixing up a new room and a large arch connects the spaces. The expansion doubles floor capacity and will support extensive trade in Sullivan.
Dr. T W Kennedy has been tendered a faculty position at the Electric Medical College of Indianapolis. His merit as a successful practitioner is recognized beyond home. Dr James Billman seeks the vacant State Board of Health post and is recommended as an efficient young physician. The board remains non partisan and to be filled by a Democrat.
J Siner of Shelburn left for Trinity Spring Monday to recuperate for a few weeks. Dr J A Harper may join this week while Dr G F Plew of Hymera is already there. About 30 locals plan to stay near and rely on home physicians if needed.
