John G. McKinney, a prominent Staffordshire merchant in Fairbanks township, repelled a masked robber who threatened him for cash. A brutal brawl erupted at the door and extended into the yard before the attacker fled, leaving McKinney unharmed and with no clue to the thief’s identity.
The Colonial Trust and Savings Bank of Chicago summarized Indiana bank replies on crops and business. Ratings show Good to Fair across corn oats wheat pasture and grass and business with overall improved agricultural conditions and steady commerce despite late harvests and seasonal delays.
Wesley Morrison, an engineer at the brick yards north of town, had a close call Friday morning. While dizzy from illness he fell from the engine running board into the wheels. a heavy flannel shirt saved him from fatal injuries as the cogwheels clogged with fabric and stopped the machine. His arm was badly lacerated but no bones were broken.

Cora May Hollingsworth wife of Ferdinand Hollingsworth died early Friday at the family residence after a long illness with consumption. She was 45 and survived by her husband and four children Eunice Travis Melvin and Raymond. Eunice and Travis live here the others in Palestine Ill and Terre Haute with Vandalia Railroad.
A large crowd attended the Children's day exercises at the M. E. church in Pleasantville Sunday night. The program was excellent and the children who took part showed they had been carefully drilled.
Roy Hair of Shelburn was found guilty in circuit court on embezzlement charges. He received a $10 fine and a 90 day jail sentence.
Martha Evans Martin known as Mattie Evans from Sullivan gained wide recognition for The Friendly Stars published by Harpers. Daughter of Dr. John Evans, she lived in New York and Albany, edited McClure's with husband Edwin Martin, and now splits time between a New York farm and the city.
Charles Taylor 26 a former Willfred citizen was crushed to death in a state mine fall at Harrisburg Illinois on Wednesday. His body arrived in Shelburne Thursday and his funeral was held at Fletcher's Chapel Sunday. He was son of Harrison H Taylor of Willfred and was to marry soon. Silas Taylor his brother in the regular army came from Virginia for the funeral.
Miss Helen H Mason and G W C Ross of Duluth Minnesota were married Thursday at 9 AM at the Mason home with Rev W H Grim officiating. Only close family attended. A wedding breakfast followed. The couple will tour Chicago then Boston and sail for Liverpool, England, remaining in Europe until mid September.
The injunction case of Henry Dickey against the town of Shelburn and five Shelburn school board members was dismissed last week in the circuit court at the plaintiff's cost.
Robert B. Bennett of Dugger entered a guilty plea in circuit court to selling liquor without a proper license and was fined ten dollars. The case records indicate a standard penalty imposed for unlawful liquor sales.

Farmersburg July 2 report the infant child of Mr and Mrs George W Shepherd of Dunnville died Sunday morning and was buried Monday in a quiet family ceremony.

Merom June 28 The state Board of Education conferred accreditation on Union Christian College praising its progress. Richard Park Sullivan County superintendent will give winter lectures at the college on Pedagogy.
Eugene Frakes of Burchard has accepted a position as traveling salesman for an Indianapolis hardware house, joining his parents Mr. and Mrs. Dan Frakes.

In Farmersburg on July 2 a rock thrown by Orris Perkins 12 struck the head of John Guerin’s 10 year old son. The boy was not seriously hurt, and the matter was reported to local authorities.
The Terre Haute and Merom Traction company led by QO L Brown wins a county franchise to build a line from Terre Haute to Merom with two thirds of the route rights secured. Construction must begin by February 1908 with passenger and freight service planned within a year. The line would pass through Fairbanks Turman Gill townships including Fairbanks Staffordshire Graysville Merom and Merom Station and may extend to Sullivan.
Thomas Pritchard, a former city resident and member of the Sullivan Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, was found dead in a well at Sessar, Illinois. Authorities believe he was murdered by a blow to the head and robbed before his body was dumped in the well.
