Death penalty motion filed as Hooper convicted in Bicknell murder
Frank Hooper, a coal miner from Bicknell, was found guilty of murder in a circuit court for the deaths of Zay Dant and John Gaither last April. The jury fixed life imprisonment, after ballots showing initial support for the death penalty before the verdict. A motion for a new trial will be filed and Hooper will remain jailed until Judge Bridwell rules.

Former Sullivan Resident Henry Hawtin Dies at 84 in Terre Haute
Henry Hawtin died last week at his Terre Haute home at age 84. He formerly lived in Sullivan where he ran a restaurant on the north side of the public square. A native of England he joined Manchester Unity and later Fort Harrison lodge of Odd Fellows. Survived by a widow and four daughters. Hawtin left Sullivan about 1874 and sold his restaurant to Sam A. White.

After months of pulmonary tuberculosis Mrs. Tom Hardy died at her home on South Court street at two o'clock Friday morning. She was fifty five and survived by her husband three brothers Joe Rufus and William Mason and three sisters Mrs Rebecca Mahan Mrs Laura Hardy and Mrs Dora Kellums. The funeral was held at the Baptist church at two thirty Saturday with Rev Clive McGuire officiating. Interment followed at Center Ridge cemetery.
