County officials discuss building a new Sullivan court house as the present structure shows severe roof deterioration and crowded offices. Arguments focus on protecting county records and whether to upgrade the current building or pursue a new facility, with plans not yet concrete.
Roy McCammon twenty from Taylorville near Terre Haute was arrested Saturday by Constable Rich on petit larceny charges. He stayed with Mrs Jemima Cordon in Jefferson township and allegedly stole a shotgun a watch money and other articles from Frank Cox home near Pleasantville. McCammon is jailed awaiting circuit court action and is expected to plead guilty risking a sentence of one to eight years at Jeffersonville.

William A. Jackson of Evansville weds Elizabeth Kennedy of Farmersburg. James W. Sims of Dugger marries Mayme G. Ferguson of Dugger. Benjamin F. Skinner of Shelburn weds Ethel V. Moore of Shelburn. Michael Convey of Dugger weds Winifred Jones of Dugger. Ulyses S. Rose of Pleasantville weds Bessie B. Brewer of Pleasantville.
Rev. P. C. Lisman joined two couples in marriage on Saturday. Jas W Sims and Miss Mayme Ferguson both of Dugger wed at two o'clock. At six o'clock William Jackson of Evansville and Mrs. Elizabeth Kennedy of Farmersburg were married.
Evangelistic services at the Methodist church are held each evening this week. The public is invited to attend all services. Pastor C. Lisman extends the cordial invitation.
John Lisman 80 a Sullivan native and Civil War veteran died Friday at his South Court Street home after about two weeks of kidney trouble. He was born in Haddon Township near Carlisle and moved to New Lebanon young. He served one year in Company G 149th Indiana. Survived by his wife Elizabeth Vickery first and Perrilla Davis 1889. daughter Lola Phipps and sons Jesse and Clell Lisman. Funeral Sunday at his residence conducted by Rev George W Titus. Burial at Center Ridge.
Mrs Margaret Newton aged 61 who ran a Mammoth boarding house died early Thursday from extensive burns after flames ignited her night clothes while tending a stove. She left her room around 1 am to reach the rear door but collapsed outside as fellow lodgers awoke. Dr R B Douglas attended but she died around 4 am after three hours of suffering.
Indianapolis January 13 Fred A Sims Republican state chairman appoints a five member special committee from the state committee to handle party affairs for the next two years or until reorganization for the next campaign. Orren Davis, a south-side furniture dealer, drew his revolver and fired several shots on Friday. His wife, frightened by his actions, fled to Ruddell's grocery. Sheriff Ed Kelly and Patrolman Webb recovered the gun. Davis, who was reportedly drinking, has not been arrested.
Friends in Graysville learn of the marriage of Miss Hagel Phillips and Chauncey Evans in Lawrenceville Illinois on November 16. The ceremony was by Rev. Hall and the couple will establish a home in Turman township. Evans is son of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Evans of Graysville. Phillips is daughter of Claude C. Phillips of near Graysville.
John Meekin the Baldridge miner pleaded guilty before Judge Bridwell to shooting Andrew Picoch at Mammoth and was sentenced to the Indiana reformatory for an indeterminate term of 2 to 14 years.
Charles Stice baggage man for the Vandalia railroad, injured in a wreck at Union station on Wednesday, died Thursday from his injuries. He was a native of Sullivan and a son of James Stice, an early resident of the city.
Frank Hooper of Bicknell faces murder charges in Sullivan circuit court for the deaths of Zay Dant and John Gaither in April. The defense rested as the state prepares rebuttal and sanity testimony. Proceedings suggest the case may go to the jury late Thursday afternoon after extended expert witness scrutiny.
Samuel W. Woodsmall Shelburn attorney released on bond Wednesday evening. He faces grand jury indictments for conspiracy to commit felony. Bond totals 3500 with $500 posted in each case. Bonds signed by Francis Woodsmall R D Woodsmall H T Hill P T Lloyd and N O Robbins all of Shelburn.
Friday payrolls at Union and Glendora mines exceeded ten thousand dollars. Glendora paid six thousand dollars with potential for more as miners drew ahead for Christmas, the largest at that mine since August last year. Union paid four thousand three hundred dollars, also reduced by prior draws.
Heavy ice in the Wabash River has raised water levels rapidly with 14.3 feet observed at Riverton on Monday. Officials fear a 15 foot rise could flood banks if the ice does not release, though a breakup would lower levels and remove danger.
Miss Carrie Yeager reports weekly weather for Farmersburg ending January 12. Days were mostly cloudy with low temperatures ranging from 11 to 34 and highs from 35 to 54. Rainfall totaled 2.48 inches across the week with 1.40 inches on the 6th, .09 on the 10th, .92 on the 11th, and .07 on the 12th.
Neighbors and friends gathered on South Main Street Thursday evening to honor Mrs. Mary McClanahan on her 80th birthday. A surprise celebration featured delicious refreshments and a joyful social event. Mrs. McClanahan, widow of Craven McClanahan, is the daughter of Alexander McKee, a Turman Township pioneer.
Miss Ethel Goldberg, pupil of Mrs Ralph Cadwell, will give a recital at the Cadwell recital hall Friday at 8 o clock. She will be assisted by Miss Edna Wolfe.
Judith Nelson, aged 98, died January 31 at her son Nathan Nelson's home in Jackson township. Born December 20, 1814 in Kentucky, she married George Nelson on July 17, 1835. Survived by two sons and one daughter, funeral at M E church Hymera. Burial in K P cemetery Hymera.
The Sullivan County Board of Charities reports on the county infirmary inspection. It notes 25 inmates, 18 men and 7 women, with three men ill. recommends room lamps and sturdy chairs, repairs to plaster and painting, and improved sanitary conditions. It lists on hand supplies including 300 bushels of corn and 60 bushels of potatoes, plus livestock. It also urges jail cell locks be operable from outside and better jail sanitation.
Hicks, the sole Sullivan county man to secure a position in the current Indiana legislature session, was appointed doorkeeper of the Senate by Senator C. T. Akin.
The New Lebanon high school will again present its entertainment program on Thursday evening January 16 following an earlier performance held in New Lebanon on January 14.

Mrs Maude Harris employed at Walston and Greenlee was severely injured Thursday when she fell from a chair while hanging a picture. A gash behind the ear required four stitches. She is recovering and getting along nicely.
Luther Johnson a well known county resident marked his 87th birthday on Thursday at his city home. He is enjoying remarkably good health for his advanced years.
The large reservoir for the Sullivan Water Company near New Lebanon caved in last week, suggesting the entire reservoir must be rebuilt. Local officials say the failure likely requires a complete reconstruction and redesign of the structure.

Charles H. Ridgeway of Carlisle sues in circuit court to enjoin payment of $500 for Moses Wickline road work in Haddon township. The contract was awarded to Carlisle Construction and sublet to Ridgeway, with administrators of Jos R. Whalen and county officials named in the suit.
The new six thousand five hundred dollar Shelburn Methodist church was dedicated Sunday with large attendance. The remaining debt of eight hundred dollars was raised at the morning service, enabling the church to begin debt free. Dr Halstead and Rev W S Biddle preached and oversaw the dedication. Local Sullivan attendees joined. A noon dinner followed with worship continuing into the afternoon and evening services led by Rev Coachman and Rev Biddle.
Willem Fletcher Allen of New Lebanon Indiana 58 dies December 31 1912 after long stomach ulcer illness. Survived by wife Ollie Hughes four children Edgar Thomas Lelia Iola Mabel Inez Wilbur Ray, aged parents and siblings. A lifelong Methodist and Sunday School superintendent for nine years his faith and service are praised by S H Caylor in this obituary.
