Mrs. Milton Patten, about 70, died late Saturday night from burns after a coal oil lamp overturned and set her clothing ablaze in a barn near Farmersburg. Her husband and a son survive, and coroner Dr Newton Botts ruled death by heart disease for Lucian Shake, 55, who died Monday morning while talking to neighbor George Leckie on the Purcell farm east of Paxton.
Postmaster Aydelotte reported that only four people had completed the blanks and supplied photographs for enemy alien identification cards as the act extends until Wednesday. The cards must be carried and shown to federal officers or police on request.
Mrs. Esther Davidson was badly burned starting a kerosene fire at her son Charles Davidson's home on East Jackson and State streets. An explosion gutted the residence, flames extinguished by the fire department. Insurance covers about one thousand dollars. property owned by James M Lang and Paul Poynter. Household effects damaged by smoke and water.
Mrs. C. E. Warren departed Sunday for New Smyrna Florida where she will visit her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Hoke.

Claude Thompson hosts a Feb 23 sale near Oakland City featuring Poland China sows and Holstein cows. Ural Hayden runs a Feb 19 sale near Doddsbridge Turman township. Asbury Page organises a Feb 25 Merom sale of stock corn hay and more. Monk Carrithers advertises a Feb 23 sale at B G Carrithers farm south of Graysville.
The Sullivan County Conscription Board began listing classified individuals on index cards for a personal reference library. Cards include names, order numbers, addresses, physical results, occupations and employers, with 1700 cards to be indexed. The board will issue blue identification cards proving compliance with the conscription act and has dispatched cases of George Adams and Andrew Essingier to the sheriff to locate them.
A local man Maurice Nesbit, son of W. R. Nesbit, was feared aboard the Tuscania after its sinking but a card from Jersey City confirms he did not sail and is safely stationed there. postmark February 5.
The Sullivan company of Home Guards was mustered into the state service Thursday night by Major James T. Cutler of Evansville. Sixty members joined with Lee Ellis as captain Court Henderson as first lieutenant and Walter Walters as second lieutenant. Men will be measured for uniforms this week.
An insanity inquest held Saturday in Squire N W Ringo's office examined witnesses George Fry Delphi Shepherd Carrie Rector E M Deputy and S M Rector regarding Florence Nichols 20 of Cass township The panel recommended treatment at Evansville asylum for the insane.
Real estate transfer shows John H. McNaughton and Lucile McNaughton selling six acres including the farm residence north of New Lebanon to John M. Springer.

Mrs Hardin Stewart aged 55 a well known Farmersburg resident died Saturday night of paralysis. She is survived by her husband and three sons Hosea Edgar and Elmer Stewart.

Mrs Lisman age unknown died Monday afternoon at her home after an extended Tuberculosis illness. She came here seven years ago from Boonville Indiana when her husband was chosen pastor of the Methodist church. Funeral this afternoon at the Riggs Flats home conducted by Rev J T Scull with burial at Center Ridge cemetery. She is survived by daughters Ruth Lisman and Helen Lisman, mother Rebecca Barnhill of Palestine, a sister Mrs George Hartley, and brother Carter Barnhill.
The Sullivan Lodge Knights of Pythias will celebrate the 54th anniversary of the order and honor local lodge members in the army with a patriotic program next Tuesday night at the Gymnasium school building. The Uniform Rank will assist and the Sullivan orchestra will provide music. Public invited.
The Sullivan Circuit Court draws its February term petit jurors. Members listed include Elijah Hume and jurors from multiple townships such as Haddon Jefferson Cass Gill Turman Fairbanks and Hamilton among others. Jurors report Tuesday February 26th.
Located in Alabama, St L Thompson, former Fairbanks resident and once in business here, visited on business last week. He has lived in Crawfordsville and worked as a government inspector of portable houses bound for France. Thompson bought four acres fifteen miles from Mobile and will farm. he now grows twenty acres of potatoes and four acres of cabbage.
Orville Fatty Heck son of James Heck of Farmersburg was arrested Friday for assaulting Dick Bedwell a Farmersburg marshal. He was refused bond of 500 dollars in Squire Watsons court. Heck allegedly assaulted the marshal then boarded a north bound streetcar and was arrested by Terre Haute police as he left the car.
A marriage license was issued at Spencer last week for Eddie De Baun Thixtun and Nora Franklin. Thixtun, formerly a physician here, is now a staff physician at French Lick Springs.
Licey Bosley and D C St. Clair of this city were severely burned on face and arms while searching for a gas main leak at the Dome Gas Company late Sunday afternoon.
