Local option election petition in Sullivan Second Ward debated
County commissioners to hear a local option petition Monday with 202 names while 182 are needed. City forces seek to remove names. remonstrance in Second Ward has 215 signatures, 158 needed to be effective. Remonstrance targets liquor licenses in the Second Ward under a ordinance restricting saloons to the Second Ward.

Wabash River Flood Pushes to 24.4 Feet at Riverton
Rains caused the Wabash to rise last week with Riverton reaching 24.4 feet on Thursday and 22 feet on Friday. Levees held at Gill township where a 24 foot stage was met, and about 3 000 acres of wheat and meadow land flooded nearby. The Sullivan County Water Company pumped without damage, requiring a 26 foot stage to threaten its plant.

Well Known Farmer John W Walters Dies at 65
John W. Walters 65 a prominent farmer living two miles south of the city died suddenly Wednesday after a short illness with pneumonia and heart failure. Funeral was at the residence Friday afternoon with interment in Center Ridge cemetery. Surviving are wife deceased three years ago and four children Dr. C. R. Walters and Bishop Walters of Paxton Mrs C F Cox south of Sullivan and Raymond Walters at home.

Rainey Arrested in San Francisco in Lattas Creek Case
Rainey formerly of Shelburn and a former baseball player was arrested in San Francisco as the accomplice of Bert Dickey in the Lattas Creek robbery. Detective Fred Armstrong brought him back to Terre Haute for trial. Rainey had about $1000 on arrest. Dickey already jailed in Evansville.
