Mail order wagon myth tested by Boone County farmer
In Boone County Missouri 1906 farmer Mr Brown bought a wagon from a local dealer for 75 dollars but compared a mail order catalog and chose a 67.45 dollar model. After delays and poor fit he paid ship, a local blacksmith fixed parts, and extra costs pushed total past the mail order savings. The episode argues against mail order shopping and praises local merchants for supporting community wealth and jobs.
