Guardian Remains of President Lincoln Veteran Stephen Hiatt Dies
Stephen Hiatt a well known citizen and Civil War veteran died last Wednesday after an extended illness at age 72. He served with honor including as body guard to President Lincoln and was wounded at Salem Cross Roads in 1864. Hiatt leaves a wife five surviving children and eight at marriage with America Laycock. He was Mustered out in 1865 and buried at Center Ridge following a lengthy service record in the First Texas cavalry.
