Alleged incendiaries arrested in Pleasantville case
Wesley G. Mayfield and John Mermett, coal miners living in Pleasantville, were arrested Monday afternoon by Sheriff Walters and Deputy Henry Smith on an incendiary fire charge. They allegedly set fire to Squire Bedwell’s general store on April 29, damaging multiple businesses and an Odd Fellows hall with losses around 310,000. A preliminary examination is set for this afternoon at 2 o clock.

Man Acquitted in Threatening Wife and Family Case
Shelburn, August 13. Lee Snapp was tried last night in Squire Dickey's court on threatening to kill his wife and family. The jury acquitted after a short deliberation. The incident began Sunday when his daughter testified he returned home drunk with cartridges and vowed to kill them. He later borrowed a shotgun from Jno Ervin claiming rabbit hunting. His family fled to a neighbor's for safety as Marshal Fox confronted him in the yard.
