Brave Civil War Widow Recalled In Tragic Family Memoir
Mrs. Sarah Gilkerson widow of Fletcher Freeman and later John Gilkerson died at 84. Her life began with Lt. Freeman’s 1863 murder by suspected Knights of the Golden Circle as she faced eight children and poverty on a Cass township farm. She later remarried, moved to Sullivan, and cared for her family through paralysis. Surviving children include Dr Joseph Freeman Thomas Freeman Charles Freeman Fletcher Freeman Mariah McClure and Fannie Robbins.

William Britton will apply at the May session of the County Commissioners for a liquor license at Hymera. He announced the plan in the Hymera Vindicator. The township is now dry by remonstrance, with a prior remonstrance renewed from 1907. Theodore Thompson, who sought a license last year, appealed to the circuit court, but the case has not been tried.

Fairbanks April 23. The small pox epidemic in Fairbanks township has practically abated and all those afflicted have recovered. Assessors could not work due to the outbreak and the Fairbanks assessment is postponed until June 4. Assessments in other townships will be finished by May 15.

Sullivan Man Boards Titanic After Launch in Belfast
Cuthbert J. Sherman president of Citizens Trust Company of this city toured Europe last summer and boarded the Titanic at Belfast shortly after launch. Her sister ship Olympic entered harbor as Sherman sailed. Captain B J Smith, later captain of the Titanic, went down with the vessel in the disaster.

Fugitive Vincent Adams Arrested in Missouri
Vincent Adams a Lattas Creek miner who shot Wesley Sexton in Jackson township was arrested at his parents home near Macon Missouri by Deputy Sheriff Ed Kelley. Adams is jailed here on assault with intent to kill Sexton with bond set at 500. Sexton remains hospitalised in Terre Haute expected to recover. The shooting followed a prior fight in Jasonville. Adams had vanished after the incident and had posted bond earlier.
