Damage suits filed over mine machinery injuries

Two large damage suits arising from mining equipment incidents have been moved from Sullivan to Knox county. James W. Anderson sues Consolidated Indiana Coal Company for 25000 claiming eye loss from a burn due to company negligence. William Hamilton, administrator for John Klemenshesky, sues Summit Coal and Mining for 10000 over the miner's death.

Reception to Teachers at New Lebanon Public Schools

Patrons hosted a Friday afternoon reception for New Lebanon public school teachers in Woodman Hall. A brief musical program preceded refreshments of ice cream cake and punch. Pink and white decorations complemented the event, with about eighty attendees enjoying the pleasant gathering.

Purdue Expert Talks on Corn Clubs

Monday evening at the Davis Hotel Prof M Smith of Purdue University spoke to Sullivan businessmen and county farmers about organizing a Boys Corn Club. He highlighted nationwide success and urged local business support for Sullivan County group formation to boost production with fathers and sons selecting seed corn and dedicating an acre for trials.

Shelburn, April 14. A thief pried off rear door bars to enter Ford store Sunday night and took about $20 and merchandise. Bloodhounds from Hymera and Vincennes tracked trails for several hours Monday. Shelburn has seen recent robberies, and important results are expected.

Jury Awards Damages To Drake Against Carlisle Town

A circuit court jury last week awarded Alice B. Drake nine hundred dollars in a suit for damages against the town of Carlisle over injuries from a defective sidewalk. Drake sought two thousand dollars.

The board of commissioners granted petitions for rock roads and continued them until townships have sufficient funds. Burglars Hit F. M. Douthitt Clothing Store

Burglars entered the clothing store of F. M. Douthitt on the south side of the public square Friday night and carried off two suits of clothes. The cash register was untouched. Entry was gained through a rear window.

Carlisle Schools Closed by Scarlet Fever Epidemic

Carlisle schools shut due to scarlet fever with five or six cases. A strict quarantine is kept in two affected families, and children under fifteen may not leave their yards. Officials expect reopening in about a week to ten days.

Sentence Suspended in Thornton Bach Case

Thornton H. Bach former publisher of the Hymera Vindicator pleaded guilty to taking money under false pretenses. A ten day jail sentence was suspended on good behavior after he conducted a voting contest and disappeared with the prize winner’s piano. he was arrested later in Terre Haute and claimed he left Hymera to get funds to buy the piano.

Pleasantville Man Dies Eleven Years After Coal Mine Injury

Clyde Daugherty aged 22 who was paralyzed from a Powell coal mine accident eleven years ago died yesterday in Pleasantville. He was unmarried and lived with Joshua Booker. The funeral was held today at the M B church conducted by Rev. Watkins.

Theopolis Lockhart aged 33 son of John Lockhart with a mild form of insanity will be admitted to the Southern insane hospital at Evansville as soon as arrangements are made.

Earl Jackson a 31 year old son of Dr. John Jackson has become violently insane in recent days. Arrangements are being made for his admission to the insane hospital.
