Sullivan county Democrats clash as a ring bars Hearst resolutions at the May 12 convention. Delegates elected include Hearst supporters and Parker opponents, with Abe Frakes named county chairman after a brief, gagged session.
Tilghman Ogle and attorneys Bays & Bays and Charles D. Hunt filed suit in circuit court to oust Robert Taylor from the county clerk office after Ogle’s election and governor’s commission. Taylor, represented by William H. Bridwell, is accused of denying the office on March 28 and again on April 4, with Ogle claiming $1000 in lost fees and seeking the office plus $1500 damages.
Mrs. R A Plunkett visited her parents in Merom on Tuesday for a brief family visit.
Mrs Rose Anna Burnett wife of W B Burnett died Tuesday of last week at her home near Providence. Born in Kentucky in 1814 she died at 87 years 4 months and 20 days. She joined the M E church at 43 and remained faithful. Survived by five children two brothers and sisters forty three grandchildren seventy great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Funeral at Providence church with Brother Ryan of New Lebanon and burial in Burnett cemetery.
Solomon Draper died at noon today from an attack of diabetes. He was 78 and a Sullivan resident for over 60 years. He leaves two sons I. S. Draper and W. M. Draper and three daughters Mrs. Louisa Timmons Mrs. Lizzie Owens and Mrs. Carrie Jarvis of Rosedale.
A Victory Service will be held to mark the completion of the Baptist parsonage and improvements and the attainment of self support. The event will take place on Sunday May 15. One announcement will be made.
In a circuit court decision last Wednesday the marriage between Ella Chandler and William D. Chandler was declared null and void and the plaintiff's name was changed to Ella Coffman.

At a joint Culver and Lake Forest University debate held last Saturday in Culver the question was whether the U S should interfere to prevent the dismemberment of China. The negative team from Culver consisted of Fred Bays and Arthur Krug and won the prize.
The shoe business of T. B. Springer, once Crowder's, passes to Earnest Cowles and Claude Taylor who will open this week. Both are Sullivan natives with extensive shoe and dry goods experience and plan progressive operations while honoring old patrons and attracting new customers.
Miss Bessie Trease of Indiana polis visits Mr and Mrs C F Wardner. John Mason to carry mail on Rural Route No 1. Wes Hunt family back from six years in San Francisco. Mrs Jess Eaton went to Jasonville last week. Born to Mr and Mrs J W Acemp a daughter. Paul Maen and mother return from California. Mrs Uriah Coulson of Sullivan visited J K Coulson. Mr and Mrs Ezra Smith with his parents in Sullivan. S C's first train over the river Sunday, regular trains to follow. Misses Lelia and Mabel Allen hosted a flinch party last Thursday night.
Perley Hayworth visited from near Farmersburg. The New Pittsburg Coal and Coke Co plans sinking a new shaft on the Riggs farm. The Jackson Hill Coal Co will build a two story brick on Railroad St. Work to sink the mine begins soon. The Kettle Creek Coal Co will start a new shaft soon. Public schools closed Friday with a surprise dinner for Prof Brant?ce.
Justice of the Peace J Wesley Burnett marked his 57th birthday on Saturday. The piece notes that 39 years earlier he fired the last shot at Appomattox as No 1 on a gun in the 12th Michigan battery, the last to fire before Lee surrendered.

Rural mail carriers face new limits effective July 1, prohibiting acting as agents for newspapers or other entities. A conference will decide between state and house provisos, with the senate proposing limited merchandise carriage and subscription delivery under postmaster general rules.
Republicans across Sullivan County vote for delegates to county and judicial conventions and for township assessors and trustees. Dates vary with the largest slate in Hymera with 35 delegates, others in Carlisle 23, Jefferson 12, Turman 14, Fairbanks 7, New Lebanon 22, Dugger 21, Township School House 26, Sullivan 52. Dr and Mrs W H Grim returned today from the Pacific Slope where they spent the winter.
The Woman's Club agreed at its meeting yesterday to petition the town board to deny a street fair franchise this year. Members debated the issue at length and cited several reasons, chiefly the perceived degrading effect of such events.
Scott Dixon of Princeton and Mrs J I Holcomb visited Terre Haute and Sullivan. Several residents edited business, visited relatives, or accepted positions. A newborn daughter was welcomed near Walker's Chapel. Ward Liston, 19 months, is the youngest depositor at Sullivan County Loan and Trust with 12 dollars saved.
