Killed Friend by Accident in Shelburn Saloon Incident
Arthur Hayes a 32 year old coal miner residing near Shelburn died after being struck by a bullet during target practice at a saloon. Charles Daugherty the saloon keeper fired after missing a mark and fired at beer bottles causing Hayes’s death. Daugherty surrendered to the Shelburn marshal and was jailed for investigation before release once facts showed accident.

Prominent Shelburn Citizens Fight Over Anti-Saloon Move
Shelburn April 7 two famed residents Squire Dickey and Leonard Orr clashed Saturday afternoon amid anti saloon tensions. The justice of the peace struck Orr wounding his eye. Arrests followed and Squire Taylor dismissed the case. Orr filed an affidavit against Dickey before Squire Kirkham.
