Baltimore June 27 Wilson gains momentum as the Democratic National Convention prepares to nominate. Bryan and O Gorman spearhead platform writing while clashes over South Dakota seating and Philippine voting unfold. James delivers a progressive call praising Bryan as enduring leader despite intra party tension.
Charles W. McManus of 417 Linden Avenue is named to succeed Richard Gilson as City Water Works Collector, with Gilson resigning to accept the postmastership. McManus has spent seven years in LaBelle Iron Works store room and is described as competent for the new role.
The Jefferson County Trades and Labor Assembly endorsed a plan to raise funds for a city hospital in Steubenville. They urged workers to join the effort to establish a modern facility offering medical and surgical care to all, rich or poor, as the city grows industrially.

H Anderson a longtime Ohio Republican figure died at his home. A Marion native, he served as mayor of Marion, was a delegate to Ohio’s first Republican convention, was counsel at Hamburg under Lincoln, and later served as internal revenue collector at Mansfeld under Johnson.
Mary and John Dallas of Weirton pleaded guilty to illegal liquor sales in New Cumberland. Judge Hervey fined them 12s each and ordered 60 days in jail, but split the punishment to protect the four children. The husband will serve first, while the wife returns home with the children with a promise to reform and observe the law.
In Salem Ohio the Ohio and Pennsylvania League owners approved a franchise transfer from Hugh A. Shannon to James T. Bradley. Bradley appointed Clarence Wagner as player-manager. a $108 penalty was remitted. Bradley plans to move the club to a larger city while Salem businesses pledge support. President Travis says a new schedule will be ready next week and the season starts July 6 after a July 4 finale and a day off on the 5th.
The Steubenville city plan advances toward a mechanical filtration system as the Board of Control and City Council take an option on Bustard farm for a filtration plant site. A 30 day option was secured after a site visit by council members, the water commission, and the city engineer, with plans by filtration engineers forthcoming to estimate costs. Concurrent upgrades at the water works include replacing four 100 HP boilers with four 125 HP Erie boilers and adding two half million gallon pumps with 12 inch pipe to boost capacity to one million gallons daily for Hill and Pleasant Heights, ensuring future supply.
