Avon’s Bard and Stratford Pilgrimages in Shakespeare Country
In Stratford and surrounding spots in Warwickshire the author highlights birthplaces and burial sites of William Shakespeare, Holy Trinity Church, New Place, and historic inns. He notes the Shakespeare Memorial, the Memorial Theatre, and local hikes to Ann Hathaway’s cottage, with praise for the town’s blend of old charm and modern additions.
Stratford Day Pageant and Shakespearean Insight
A 1500 strong procession moved from birthplace to Holy Trinity church where Shakespeare lies buried with flowers on his grave. The account notes British and foreign flags, chimes, and an organ filled church with music, followed by a sermon and mayoral procession. It then discusses Walter Raleigh’s Shakespeare bibliography and quotes on understanding his themes and language, plus reflections on Shakespeare’s education and use of anachronism in plays.
