Train wreck in tunnel injures ten near Mitchell
An eastbound B&O passenger train derailed in the middle of a tunnel at Tunnelton near Mitchell Indiana. Ten people were badly hurt as five cars piled up and rescuers faced great difficulty freeing bruised and bleeding passengers from debris. The engine passed safely but the tender jumped the track on a curve in the tunnel.

A lighted bomb was hurled into the chamber of Deputies in Athens on June 19 by an insane man. The fuse fell off, narrowly sparing the deputies from death. Four local men involved in a bold hold up on Water street just after midnight. Robert Stevenson, 63, was attacked near Market Street saloon by Buck Payne Lou Norman and two others, who fled after Stevenson cried out. Police have Payne and Norman in custody and seek the remaining two suspects. Stevenson fought back. his money earlier at the saloon was not recovered by the assailants.

Mingo Foreman McCaffrey Shot Near Callahan Crossing
Section foreman Michael McCaffrey, in charge of Pan Handle railroad from the Dump to Mingo Junction, narrowly escaped death when Italian workman Frank Alfonso fired five shots at him near Callahan's crossing. One bullet struck McCaffrey in the back. doctors say the wound is serious but not fatal. Police and local officers pursued Alfonso, who fled toward Mingo after the shooting. McCaffrey, a Mingo Junction resident and village council member, received medical attention and is recovering.

Narrow Escape Of a Pan Hand's Flagman From Death
Clem Lindsay a flagman on a Dennison to Pittsburg freight train narrowly escaped death when the car moved while he fixed an air apparatus. He saved himself by grabbing a rail but the wheel crushed his left hand severing the little finger and injuring the next three. He was taken to West Penn hospital Allegheny. His home is Wilmerding. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Charles M Lindsay of Dennison.
