Annual Yearbook Board Appointments Named for 1946

Youth Center Opens To Capacity Crowd

A September 14 opening night drew about three hundred attendees after the Sterling Community football game. Geer and Jeanine Cramer ran the snack bar while Gayle Farthing and Gail McBride chaired the door. Chaperones were Mrs. Royal Redfield and Mrs. Ray Cramer. Twenty new records were added, the machine overhauled, and the senior class led the event. The next opening is September 28 after the Sterling Rock Falls game.

High School Sprayed With DDT Insecticide

The high school was sprayed Saturday with a diluted 10 percent DDT pyrethrum mix to kill flies and insects feared to carry infantile paralysis. Officials say the treatment was harmless to humans and left rooms free of flies by Monday morning.

Former S. H. S. Student Dies in China Mission

The deceased is First Lieutenant Martin B. Hurd, a former Sterling Town senior from the class of 1988. He served as an Army Air Force cadet and later as a pilot, reportedly killed in China on September 9, with surviving relatives named as his parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold I. C. Hurd.

Freshman Initiation Ends With Pep Meeting

A school initiative ends with a pep meeting as upperclassmen enforce freshman initiation actions. Readings describe pranks including mismatched shoes, multi colored socks, hair styling, rolled pom poms, and bows. Student Councillors To Appoint Monitors

Student monitors will be appointed soon to supervise the hallways. The student council will direct the selection of the students who will act as monitors. There will be a different tip for each period of the day. Desks will be provided in the hallways where those in charge will remain all periods. Some duties include keeping halls clear and quiet, directing strangers, assisting new students, and keeping hallways clean.

Mrs Eades capably directs the Sterling High Robed Choir known for fine choral presentations. The choir plans sectional rehearsals starting in October to improve individual sections and the group as a whole.
