Welcome Class Of 49 Golden School Days

Engage Five Teachers To Fill Vacancies

Five new teachers are named to fill vacancies at the school. Miss Alice Dorick, a Highland Park and Knox College graduate, will teach mathematics after last teaching at Galesburg Senior High. Mrs. Wetherell, a Latin instructor and Grace Episcopal rector’s wife, brings years of high school experience. Mrs. Kondex will lead vocal music, replacing David Stryker. Miss Mary B. Harris and Mrs. Neal Marquis will teach English, Harris with prior work at multiple area high schools and Marquis from Sterling Motor High in Cicero.

F F A Sixteen Eight HI S Fair honors at Morrison show

The future farmers dominated the Morrison sectional agriculture fair on August 21. Lawrence LeFevre captured three grand championships in Duroc Swine, with Loren De Jonge placing second in hog classes and winning a first in a litter of Hampshires. Other winners included Lyle Stouffer in Chester White, the Ebersole brothers in Poland Chinas, and multiple dairy, sheep, and poultry victors led by J. Davis Bud LeFevre and R. Landis as well as Jim Stouffer in Shropshires. Four freshmen shared top honors.

New Counseling Period Schedule Introduces Seven Classes

A weekly guidance period replaces prior routines with seven class groups. Each student joins a teacher adviser and meets in a designated time, with officers elected to lead and coordinate activities. Officers include president, vice president, secretary treasurer, and council members, all focused on schoolwide development.

Locker Fee Policy For Returning Students Unchanged

Students with built in lockers retain them this year. Those who did not receive a refund last year pay no 0.40 fee. Students who got a refund last year must pay 0.40 to obtain their locker combination, which is already attached. A 0.25 refund is issued at year end if the lock is returned in working order.

New School Schedule Adds Seven Period Day

New class schedules arrange a seven period day with laboratory subjects in hour periods and academic subjects in forty five minute periods.

The Sterling Township school board consists of S. H. 8. alumni elected by the people. President Mr. P. H. Ward is a prominent attorney. C. Beatty is a retired farmer. H. E. Bell is a retired merchant. A. W. Wheeler is a prominent businessman. Lloyd Brown is an attorney. They are active community representatives addressing school problems for student benefit.

Help Keep School Spic and Span

Students of 8 H.S. urged to maintain a clean environment by avoiding gum on desks and oil marks, and by being careful to keep floors and surfaces in order as janitorial help remains scarce.
