S H S introduces three new staff members Miss Margaret Shaver Mrs William Martin and Mr James Haake. Shaver will guide Freshman and Sophomore girls and Martin will advise Junior and Senior Home Economics and Homeliving classes. Haake will teach Freshman English.
Principal Roscoe Eades extends a hearty greeting to new and returning Sterling and Rock Falls teachers. A September 10 bus tour introduced staff to local churches, schools, businesses, parks, and industries. The message urges careful planning, cooperation, and a positive start to the year amid community improvements like Fifth Avenue sidewalks and curb construction.
Students are urged to buy an activity ticket for 3 dollars to cover all home football and basketball games and the SCRIPT. Individual game tickets would cost seven to eight dollars, plus the SCRIPT, and future issues require the ticket or a higher price subscription. Buy before next Friday and bring the money to ensure entry.
The 1953 54 school year enrollment at S H S totals 800 students with 150 seniors 203 juniors 222 sophomores and 220 freshmen. Last year’s enrollment was 750.
The document lists required subjects for graduation at Sterling Township High School. English and Mathematics must be studied for two years each, Physical Education for four years, and American History, Natural Science, and Civics for one year or semester as specified. Grades influence participation in activities and overall progress.
Ted Scheid, head of the Physical Education Department, suffered a heart attack on Friday August 14 and was admitted to Community General Hospital. He spent about three weeks in an oxygen tent but is now out and progressing. the SCRIPT staff asks well wishes and requests visitors and cards for his recovery.
