S.T.H.S. Quill and Scroll Inducts Seventeen Juniors and Seniors

Seventeen junior and senior writers at S.T.H.S. were inducted into Quill and Scroll during a May 27 awards assembly. Junior Rotarians entertain Sterling Rotary Club luncheon

The Junior Rotarians hosted the Sterling Rotary Club at a May 12 luncheon. Fifty three seniors attended as guests throughout the year and the Junior Rotarians ran the meeting.

Alumni Banquet Honors Classes With Reunions

Senior alumni gathering set for June 6 at 6 30 P M in the S H S library marks the 50th anniversary of the class of 03 and a 25th reunion for the class of 28. Rev James McKelvey to speak. Clarence Yeager chairs. Doris Burritt handles tickets, reservations due June 2.

Road-E-O Draws Senior Students From Three Towns

Seventy-five students from Sterling Rock Falls and Newman joined the Road-E-O sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Ten S.H.S. competitors reached the final obstacle test on May 24 after written and driving preliminaries. Finalists included Bob WadsworthBob NesbittElwood HerrBarb BickfordBob BrownBill ClitheroJohn MarquisJon MillerDean PetersonJim Zeigler with five others from Rock Falls and Newman. Herb Rollins served as general chairman in charge of the project.

Baccalaureate Service Set At St. John’s Lutheran

Baccalaureate services will be held Sunday May 31 at 8 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church under the Sterling Rock Falls Ministerial Association. Rev. David B. Maxton of the Presbyterian Church leads the service. Robed Choir will sing Alleluia Beautiful Savior and My God How Wonderful Thou Art. Dr. Alfred Grewe will present the sermon.

Class of 1953 to Close Education Phase in Evening Ceremony

On June 2 weather permitting the Class of 1953 will march across the stadium lawn to the ceremony closing their formal education phase. The program opens with Pomp and Circumstances played by the band and includes Rev. Eugene J. Moore delivering the invocation and Rev. William F. Powell as guest speaker with A Call for New Men.

Sterling High Spanish Club Attends May 1953 Convention

The Sterling Township High School Spanish Club joined a convention at Galesburg High School on May 9 1953. Attendees included president Margo Dillon Shirley Hackbarth Nancy Crofton Mary Espinoza Lino Carrillo Pat Battles Al Hernandez Ramon Gonzalez Larry Meyer Beckie Garcia Lois Deter Miss Jean Thompson and advisor Miss Ruth Straw. Beckie Garcia elected corresponding secretary for the state group. The day featured a morning business meeting lunch slides on Central America and a talent program. A Sinnissippi Park picnic on May 19 closed the year with social gains and knowledge.
