All-School Dance Highlights Indian Summer Theme

The first all school dance in the high school gym on October 13 featured an Indian Summer theme with corn shocks tepees and totem poles. Tom Griffith hosted the floorshow with readings from John T. McCutcheon and an Indian War Dance performed by several students.

Junior Rotarians Selected From Senior Students

Miss Doreen Landis Joins Home Economics Dept

Introducing Miss Doreen Landis from Amboy as the newest member of SHS Home Economics. She taught four years in Amboy, is a graduate of Northern Illinois State Teachers College De Kalb, and did post graduate work at Colorado A and M. Her favorite food is chicken and blue is her preferred color. She is impressed by SHS students’ friendly attitude toward faculty.

New Speech Teacher Miss Larson Joins La Grange Post

Miss Barbara Larson from La Grange Illinois arrives as the new speech teacher. She studied at the University of Wisconsin and attended a summer course at DeKalb State Teacher's College. She directs the Senior Play and heads the dramatic club while coaching the debate club. Her colors are blue and she enjoys coffee. Her pet peeve is people who laugh at jokes but say they do not get them.

Miss Head Returns to Sterling as shorthand teacher

Miss Alice Head, recently back in Sterling, will teach shorthand and typing. She studied at Albion Michigan and earned an A B from the University of Michigan, later teaching at Detroit Business College and the University of Utah.

Sterling Homecoming Promises Biggest Event in City History

SHS announces Blue and Gold Day with a noon parade through downtown led by the band. Homecoming game at 8 pm fills the stadium, followed by a coliseum dance organized by the S Club and G.A.A. with chairs and committees listed for decorations, outfits, tickets, and entertainment.

Senior Play Cast Chosen For December 8 Thaw

The Senior Play cast was chosen in October with rehearsals starting. The production, January Thaw by William Roos from Bellamy Partridge, is directed by Miss Larson at SHS with the following cast in order of appearance.

Choir Enters Dixon Festival As Nine Schools Attend

The Music Festival will be held in Dixon Illinois on November 19. Ten conference schools will be represented and Mr Tonkin serves as chairman.
