This article recalls the Pilgrims 1621 feast decreed by Governor Bradford and the long history of Thanksgiving. It notes Lincoln’s 1863 date and Roosevelt’s 1941 legal holiday change, then looks to modern families sharing turkey dinner and gratitude.
The Robed Choir presents its annual Christmas Concert on December 16 at 8 15 p m in the Sterling Coliseum. The program features sacred works by Bach Palestrina Praetorius Schreck Williams and Adams plus secular pieces and Christmas carols. Soloists include Joan Bellmar Nancy Crofton Ann Farrer Margaret Lair Judy Maynard John DeWind Elvin Blosser Neil Brown John Marquis Ronald Newell and Jim Smith.
Al Hernandez John Fassler Ken Kraft Judy Swain Joyce Sulcuff and Sue Hey chosen as next six Junior Rotarians. They will be guests at Rotary Club meetings on November 18 November 25 and December 2.
The Science Club at Sterling Township High School has sixteen members with Richard Crane as president and Lee Tyne as vice president. They meet every other Tuesday in the chemistry room and have staged black light demonstrations and atomic energy films. The group planned a Chicago bus trip to the Museum of Science and Industry and Adler Planetarium and aims to enter a spring science fair at Northern Illinois State Teachers College DeKalb.
The Pep Club under Miss Heath and Miss Phillip has held three meetings and aims to boost school spirit. Members plan a cheering section with school color cards spelling words like Warriors and to perform skits at pep meetings.
The S H S Players will stage the three act Ayn Rand drama Night of January 16 on December 10 and 11 in the girls gym using a portable stage. The plot centers on Karen Andre’s trial for the death of financier Bjorn Faulkner with a jury drawn from the audience.
The Camera Club has elected Lauren Frazier as president, Mary Lou Oglevee as secretary, and Floy Allen as treasurer. Members learn to develop pictures and may work after school on Thursday and Friday nights or during free periods with advisor assistance.
