Warriors End Season With Third Place In NCIC Meet
The NCIC meet crowned Kewanee in second year conference play with a sweeping victory in varsity and fresh soph divisions. Sterling matched varsity third, while Torrential rain forced a reschedule to DeKalb. Kewanee’s double winners Terry Zang and Ed Lamb powered the Boilermakers to 523 points, with Mendoza second at 264 and Sterling third at 24. Fresh-soph saw DeKalb lead 294 to Sterling 27 and Kewanee 45, as Butch Turner’s misraces nullified Sterling’s relay. Individual standouts included Gary Imel and Dave Thomas for Sterling, Ken Siebel and Chuck Brainard for Rock Falls and Dixon, while Zang and Lamb anchored Kewanee’s wins. The Warriors’ upcoming season hinges on pitching depth led by Jim Murphy Beatty Handel with a strong infield and solid catching led by Ken Small.
